Limited Edition - Afi Nayo

In September 2023, Château La Coste will be presenting an exhibition by French artist Afi Nayo.
Afi Nayo lives between France (Paris) and Togo (Lomé). A multi-disciplinary artist, she works mainly on wooden paintings and clay cubes, on which she engraves animals and chimeras in the style of hieroglyphs. She develops an unknown language.

In the early 2000s, she took part in several residency programmes, including one in Togoville where she won 1st prize. Since then, she has had numerous solo exhibitions in France, Europe, the United States and Africa.
For her exhibition "Cheek to cheek" with Philippe Anthonioz in the Renzo Piano Pavilion, she created a series of limited editions in collaboration with Chateau La Coste and the Thompson studio.

This is the first time she has created this type of work, and while it remains close to her original works in terms of symbolism and the colours she chooses, she is at the same time moving away from her first codes to draw a more figurative work. In this case, a 'Red Fish' symbolising good luck and positive transformation, or a 'Cactus Man' that evokes a voodoo object and therefore refers to a form of magic.
