Yoshitomo Nara, Recent Sculpture

Château La Coste is delighted to announce a forthcoming collaboration with renowned Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara (b. 1959, Hirosaki, Aomori Prefecture), who returns to Château La Coste with a monumental group of large-scale sculptures varying in height from one meter to over two meters. Cast in bronze in 2024, the six works are sculptural enlargements of Nara’s small but characterful, hand-molded, palm-sized clay heads.

Each bronze is coated with a bright, matte-white urethane, which evokes a sense of lightness and serenity. Nara will determine the arrangement of the sculptures—due to be installed on the lawned area approaching the art center—so that they interact collectively. This considered positioning recalls that of ancient standing stones, with their timeless, sentient presence.

The sculpture(s) will be installed in April 2026 for 9 months.
